Summary:

Technical team members went to the VE7EGO site to troubleshoot the internet connection. A couple of items were adjusted in our shack, but the fact remains that the internet connection has still not been re-established via our internet service provider.

Attendees:

VE7VZ Doug
VE7TRZ Terry

Access:

The usual route was taken to access the VE7EGO Commonage site. All in attendance drove to just below the rocky section of the road in Doug's RAV4. As the RAV4 didn't have enough ground clearance to go any further, all proceeded to the site on foot (an approximate 80m rise over a distance of 400m)

Just before heading up to the VE7EGO site, Terry telephoned Kevin at 250-744-0732 who is in charge of exploding/disposing of WW2 munitions still in the hillsides. Upon departure from the site, Terry texted Kevin to notify him of our departure. Kevin likes to know both the ins and outs of our visits to the VE7EGO site.

Events Leading Up To This Visit:

On July 23rd, we had installed new cat5e cable (donated by Lorne VE7LWK) in attempts to re-establish our internet connection. Omega would install a patch cable from the inside of their shack to our new cable demarcation box located on the outside of their shack.

On July 24th after receiving a couple of surprise emails from the PiEGO controller (indicating that internet connectivity had been restored), Brad VE7WBM was not able to make an inbound connection to the IRLP server and Terry was also unable to connect to the PiEGO server.

Actions Taken:

Doug and Terry inspected the ethernet networking situation at the site.

Three issues were found:

1) INTERNET: there was still no WAN data (confusing considering emails were received from the PiEGO which requires an internet connection). Terry has left a voice message and emailed iSpeed in attempts to resolve this issue.

2) IRLP: the IRLP server's hard drive power plug had fallen off. An easy fix to re-install it.

3) PiEGO: the internet router configuration needed some additional changes for PiEGO.

Next Steps:

Terry will continue to work remotely with our ISP iSpeed and their shack host Omega to resolve the final issue of internet access.
